“Sometimes the solution is as simple as surrounding yourself with people who truly want what is best for you.”
-Troy Peterson, Founder of ValorFit
President and Founder Troy Peterson is an Army Veteran who served from 2001 to 2006 with the First Cavalry Division as a Cannon Crewmember. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II where he received the Purple Heart Medal. After returning home from Iraq in March of 2005 Troy became an alcoholic. He used alcohol to deal with the loss of his friends and to combat his PTSD and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 2006 Troy became a drug addicted alcoholic.
For 9 years Troy hid his drug addiction from everyone. On July 30, 2015, Troy attempted to overdose. When Troy woke up he felt guilty and knew he needed a change, so he walked into CrossFit Waukee, where his life would be changed forever. The owner of CrossFit Waukee, Reggie Hoegh, immediately took Troy under his wing. Troy began to attend classes 5 days a week, and Reggie created a personalized meal plan to help Troy begin to lose weight. Troy not only started losing weight but he started gaining his confidence back after years of self-destructive behavior. A bond between two completely different people was created, and Troy began to open up about his personal struggles. Not only did people within the CrossFit community wrap their arms around Troy, people outside of that community did as well. Troy decided he wanted to give back. He has made it his mission to positively influence as many people as he can in hopes of getting Veteran’s and their families an understanding of their self-worth. ValorFit is one way he will do accomplish his purpose.
